Shag is an adult chat and casual dating site that markets itself to UK members with the promise of casual encounters, discreet use and free joining. This independent Shag review looks at what the site itself says about costs, credits, premium plans, cancellation and how it describes its own profiles. Updated October 2026.
The short version: registration is described as free, but sending messages needs credits, and the site's own terms say premium status does not remove that need. The terms also say that some profiles are fictitious and meant for chat only. Is Shag free to join? The site describes joining as free, and its terms say some features are free while others need credits, subscriptions or one-off payments. Messaging needs credits.
How much does Shag cost in the UK? According to the operator's terms, checked in October 2026, UK credit packs run from £9 for 50 credits to £299 for 2,500 credits, and premium packs cost £39.95 for three months, £59.95 for six months and £99.95 for 12 months. Prices may change.
Does premium let me message without credits? No. The FAQ says premium status does not allow you to send messages without spending credits. Premium adds search visibility, a badge and five free icebreakers a day.
Does Shag use fictitious profiles? The terms say it does. They state these profiles are marked with a heart icon, are for chat only and that meeting them in person is not possible.
How do I cancel a Shag subscription? The terms say to use the cancel button in Settings if you paid via Hydropay, or the link in the Verotel email if you paid via Verotel. Otherwise, email support at least 24 hours before renewal. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current period.
Can I get a refund? The terms say purchases are generally final and non-refundable, except where the law provides otherwise. UK consumers can ask Citizens Advice about their rights.
How do I delete my Shag account? Use the contact form to request deletion. The terms say requests are handled within 72 working hours and that remaining subscription time is lost without a refund.
Will Shag appear on my bank statement? The FAQ says billing is discreet and lists the statement descriptor as a different company name. We could not verify this without an account.
